The goal of the show is to identify the top Telugu singer. The former host of the program was the renowned playback singer from Andhra Pradesh, India, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam.

The show debuted in 1996 and ran for four successful seasons until it ended in 2000. Due to the untimely death of S. P.
